What happened to the Applebee's on Hutchison Blvd?

Big Mama's PCB took over the building at 10071 Hutchison Blvd in 2026, and the room has been opened up and brightened since the Applebee's days. People who remember the old place say the difference shows.

We cannot tell you why the Applebee's left or when, and we will not guess. What we can tell you is what is in the building now and how to get a table.

Who runs it?

Silvio Tassotti owns Big Mama's PCB and also owns Big Mama's on the Bayou, the downtown Panama City kitchen that has cooked Southern home cooking at 620 W Beach Dr for over 20 years. The beach menu comes from that kitchen, with Gulf seafood added because we are at the beach now. We call it Coastal Country.

As of October 2026 the beach store holds 4.6 stars on Google from more than 240 reviews. Reviewers write about the fried chicken first, then the peach cobbler, cornbread, mac and cheese and mock shoe.

What can you eat there?

Lunch and dinner run every day, and the kitchen is open from 11 in the morning to 9 at night by our posted hours. Those hours are still being confirmed, so call before a long drive. These are the plates most people start with:

Sides are $4 each and cornbread is $2. Mock shoe is our spelling of maque choux, a fried corn side from the Gulf Coast. Mac & Cheese, Collards, Black Eyed Peas, Cheese Grits and Dressing are on the same list.

What is different about the room?

The bar is full, with draft beer, wine, cocktails and margaritas, and margaritas are on at brunch too. There are plenty of big tables for a family or a crew, and kids plates are $10: tenders, fish, a smash burger or shrimp. Parties of 6 or more carry an 18% gratuity, and prices are cash prices with a 3% card fee added.

What are the daily specials?

Specials come with two sides, a third is $2 more, and when we are out, we are out. No prices are posted, so ask or call.

• Tuesday: beef tips over rice
• Wednesday: baked chicken n' dressin'
• Thursday: chicken n' dumplins'
• Friday: chicken n' rice, plus prime rib from 4 PM to close
• Saturday: brunch, plus prime rib from 4 PM to close
• Sunday: brunch, plus fish or fish and shrimp

Weekends open at 9 for brunch, with biscuits and gravy from $7, Chicken N' Waffles at $16 and the Breakfast Po'Boy at $14. There is no weekday breakfast at the beach store, since weekdays open at 11. For weekday breakfast from 6:30, the Bayou store in downtown Panama City has it.

How to pick

First time in the building, order the fried chicken with two sides and add the peach cobbler. Coming with kids, the $10 plates cover it. Coming for brunch, plan on a weekend.
